I was born one of 8 children, to registered blind parents in Glasgow, Scotland. Although some people assume this must have been a difficult time, it was far from it, and was in fact a gift. Storytelling was a major part of my upbringing as I come from a long line of storytellers. From the age of 5, my task was keeping my younger brother, occupied by telling him stories. My older siblings had always told me stories and my father's stories, often told in the dark, were really inspiring and I have been writing and telling stories since my early childhood.
During a six-month sabbatical in 1996, when my husband and I adopted the two youngest of our five children, I offered my services as a storyteller in the local schools so I could choose the best one for our boys. This went down very well and the schools kept asking me back. Since I was really enjoying this new found work / life balance that suited my family so well, compared to my successful though highly pressured, career I decided to give up that up entirely and became a career storyteller instead. I had received excellent testimonials from the schools which enabled me to grow my business. I then became a Consultant In Education with NIACE and for 10 years I tutored the Tutors in schools and universities across the UK and beyond on the benefits of using Storytelling as a Teaching Tool. This work has taken me all over the world: As far afield as Russia and the USA. I have been invited to tell at Storytelling Festivals across the World, most recenly in Jakarta, Indonesia and in Marrakech, Morroco in 2023 and 2024.
Following a very successful career as a storyteller in education I later enjoyed many years as a storyteller in business and have coached hundreds of people over the years the art and craft and especially the power of storytelling as a key skill in all areas of work.
